About Us
The Future Men Foundation hereafter referred to as FMF is a foundation located along Ngong road in Nairobi area, Kenya. FMF is committed to raising awareness about the issues affecting the well-being and success of adolescent boys and young men of 25+ years, in our nation and around the world. We are also committed to mentoring, coaching, transforming, and empowering young men, so that they can play a role in contributing to social welfare and community development.
FMF works towards addressing the needs of vulnerable adolescent boys and young men who are raised by single parents, needy parents, orphans, and those who have suffered neglect and abuse by providing life skills that promote self-reliance through various empowerment activities like counselling, community sensitization, mentorship, hygiene and rehabilitation programs, dance, sports, and facilitating access to education to promote retention. FMF encourages boys and men to explore, celebrate and build on characteristics that contribute to positive masculinity including: Resilience, Inclusiveness, Reflectiveness, Empathy, Resourcefulness, Curiosity and Non-violence.
Background
There has been significant neglect of boys and young men in Kenya and around the world as their welfare is often ignored. Many organizations and individuals have focused primarily on the welfare of the girl child, leading to the neglect of the boy child. This imbalance has resulted in the overlooking of the rights, welfare, and well-being of pre-teen and teen boys. This is the main reason FMF started this initiative.
In Kenya, instances of abuse or neglect involving girl children often receive widespread attention in the media, while similar cases involving boys are not as frequently reported. Additionally, hygiene education efforts often focus predominantly on girls, neglecting the needs of boys. This situation has contributed to young boys and men lagging behind and has perpetuated the misconception that only girls are vulnerable and in need of support.
Consequently, many needy, orphaned, uneducated, neglected, and frustrated boys and young men have turned to criminal activities, drug and substance abuse, and violence, such as the 2007/2008 post-election violence. Some have been exploited by politicians. These circumstances have resulted in increased criminal activities, tribal violence, and the formation of outlawed sects, posing threats to national security.
It is in response to these challenges that Future Men Foundation was established in February 2020 to raise awareness about the importance of the welfare of every teen-boys and young men; to enlighten the community on the need to provide equal opportunities to all children, irrespective of their gender.
Making a Difference
Raising awareness about the importance of the welfare of every man and to enlighten the community on the need to provide equal opportunities to all children, irrespective of their gender.
